Tutorial: Card made with paper scraps

This is a post from back in 2009 when I had like hardly ANY followers!  I thought you might be interested in this tutorial.  It's soooo easy!
I love to make cards and to scrapbook, so I have a LOT of paper scraps laying around. I used to wonder what the heck to do with them, but lately I have been making cards with all my scraps. It's really easy and fun!

1. First, you don't even have to buy pre-made blank scored cards. Just use some white (or any color ) cardstock (you can even use a brown grocery sack!) and cut it down to about 8 1/2 x 5 1/2.

2.Fold it into a card. I like to use a ruler (or bone folder) to make the fold nice and flat.

3. Now find some scraps of patterned or solid color paper, all different colors or patterns. I used about 5 strips of paper around 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches long. Vary the lengths so they are not all the same. They can even be different widths!

4. I inked the edges of each strip with a brown chalk ink. You can even use paint! It gives it a dimensional look.

5. Now, stagger each strip on the front of the card. It looks better if they are not perfectly straight and put them about 1/2 inch or so apart. I like to position each strip first before I glue them down. Start in the middle and work out.

6. If you want a sentiment, go ahead and write, print it out, or stamp one on a punched out shape or just a strip of plain white paper! I used an acrylic stamp for mine, but I have also just written or printed sentiments too. Whatever you are most comfortable with. I also inked the edges of my sentiment.

7. I attached my sentiment with a pop dot. It's basically a piece of foam with adhesive on both sides. It gives your card dimension and looks great!

8. When your done, think of someone you can give your card to and tell them it is handmade! They will be so impressed!

I am on the road in the morning at 5am!  Don't worry though, I have 13 lovely guest bloggers for the next week taking over for me.  Hope you will stop by and visit these talented ladies.  See ya when I return!

Some inspiring Fall and Halloween projects

This is my very last Halloween post...I promise!  I have to admit, I am getting a little sick of seeing Halloween decorations.  I think I am ready for Christmas!  I am working on more Thanksgiving decor as well.  Sometimes that holiday gets overlooked, don't you think?  Here are some pictures of all my Fall and Halloween crafts I  have made recently.  I love to decorate, so enjoy!

These blocks are one of my favorite decorations.  My teenage daughter carved the pumpkin.  Nice, huh?
Super easy paper tags.  I used cheap stamps, scalloped paper punch and ribbon!

This card was easy with a scalloped paper punch and I printed out the phrase.

I usually don't like skeletons, but these are kinda cute little guys.
Another easy card with scalloped paper punch and scrapbook paper.
These little matchbox paper pads are super easy to make.  Should I do a tutorial on how to make these?

Love these vintage Halloween images.  There is tons of free images on the Internet.
More lovely Halloween vintage images.  I got these from Etsy.
Simple 2 x 2 cards made with scrapbook paper and cheap Halloween stamp.
I made these with those foam stickers.  I think I got them at JoAnns.
These were simple to make with clear stamps I got at JoAnns.

The letters were made with cardstock, cut from my Cricut.  Old frame I spray painted.  Cute little spider sticker I have had forever!
I bought the grapevine wreath at Micheal's for $2.50.  Leaves were about $2.
Topiary I made with this tutorial.
Trick or Treat wreath I made with this tutorial.
I got this idea from several people's blogs.  Love how it turned out!
This is one of my favorites!  I bought the plaque at SA, sprayed it with black spray paint, and added paper, feather boa, and made the cute little ribbon rosette.  The phrase was a die cut I bought last year on clearance after Halloween!

Have a great Halloween!  I have some awesome Thanksgiving ideas coming soon.

Back to School and Fall Leaf Card How - To Tutorial

Life has been busy here lately! I can't believe it is already September and the kids go back to school next week! We've done all the shopping and bought all their school supplies, so they are ready to go.

I have been watching a 3 month old baby 2-3 days a week, so that has kept me pretty busy lately. I love watching her though. She is soooo cute! The kids love her too and always want to hold her and make her smile:)

This week I thought I would try another Tutorial. I made this card last year, and I love the way the leaf turned out. It was fun to make and I thought some of you would enjoy making it for someone special in your life! Here are the supplies you will need:

Patterned paper in Fall colors
2 pieces of cardstock in Fall colors
1 piece of ribbon approx. 4 inches (I used brown)
metal embellishment to thread ribbon through. You can also use a pop top from a can of pop!
Diamond Glaze

This card was pretty easy to make. To make the leaf, you can stamp a leaf on the back side of some patterned paper (some kind of fall color) and cut it out, or if you have a large leaf paper punch, you could punch a leaf out and use that. I used a leaf pattern out of a magazine, enlarged it, then traced it on some cute patterned paper, then cut it out.

When you have your leaf cut out, then I use Judikins Diamond Glaze which is water-based dimensional adhesive. You can buy this at your local craft store for about 4.99.

Squirt out enough diamond glaze to cover the whole leaf with a thin layer. I also sprinkled gold glitter around the edges of the leaf. Put the leaf in the freezer for about 5 minutes. Take the leaf out and bend it different ways so the glaze cracks. If it doesn't crack, put it back in the freezer for a few more minutes.

You could put another layer of diamond glaze, then put it in the freezer again for a more "crackled" look.

For a 4 x 5 1/2 card, I used 1 piece 4 x 3 inches fall patterned paper, then 2 other smaller pieces of cardstock 1 was 2 1/2 x 3 (approx.) and 2 1/2 x 1 1/4. I like to use Bazzill cardstock and I choose Fall colors.

Adhere the 3 pieces of paper to the card, then, thread the ribbon through the embellishment or pop top. Glue ribbon on card.

I stamped "thanks" then cut it out and adhered it next to the ribbon. You could also print out a sentiment, then cut it out and adhere to the card.

If you have chalk ink or a brown stamp pad, rub the pad around the edges of the card. It gives it a vintage look.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I sure did. If you have any questions about how to make the card, please feel free to leave a comment, or e-mail me!

How to make Oh Happy Day Flower Card Tutorial

I just can't get enough of flowers....so here is my next tutorial, Oh Happy Day Flower Card! It looks hard, but trust me it is really really easy!
First, for the colored cardstock background, I used orange Coredinations cardstock. I got it at Joann Fabrics and it is new. It's awesome, because the core is light, so when you rip it, you get that look as you can see in the picture. It looks really cool, but you can use any cardstock.

Next, I cut out flowers freehand from patterned paper. For this card I used KI Memories paper, because it all coordinates! When I cut the flowers I cut in a wavy pattern with my scissors. It was totally a random cut, and however you cut them will look fine! I cut them in 3 different sizes.

Then I took each flower in my hand and crumpled them...yes, get your aggressions out and really get those flowers wrinkled! The more wrinkled, the better they look. Then flatten them out on a hard surface. When you glue the flowers on your card, go around the flower to lift up the edges of the paper. It makes the flower looks 3-dimensional.

For the stems and leaves, I used tiny rick rack (not the regular size). For the stems, I just tied a piece of rick rack in a knot and glued them on the stems.

The grass is random cut pieces of green paper, in all different heights. Having a paper cutter helps, but you could also do it by hand.

To finish off the flowers, I glued a button in each of the centers with tacky tape. This tape is extra strong and I glue all buttons and heavy embellishments with this stuff. It's great!

For the center of the large flower, I used a round stamp with the "Oh Happy day" and stamped it on a separate piece of orange paper, then cut it out and glued it in the center of the flower.

Glue the background paper on first, then the large flower, small and medium. Then glue the rick rack on with the stems. Next, glue the grass on the bottom of the card. Lastly, glue the buttons in the center of each flower, and the "Oh happy day" stamped circle. If you don't have a stamp, just use a button!

This card could be for just about any occasion! I don't know anyone who doesn't love to get a handmade card! Your friends and family will be so impressed!

If you have any questions about how to make this card, or where I got any of the supplies, please feel free to e-mail me at kweight@byu.net.

NOW FOR THE GOOD PART! I want to give this card away to someone....From the first 25 people who make a comment on my blog with who they would give this card to and why, I will randomly select a winner on at 10am on July 3rd! Good luck!!

How to make a Paper Posey Card- Tutorial

I am really excited to post this tutorial about how to make these cute little paper posies! They are so easy to make and you can also use paper scraps for them.

1. Rip 4 paper circles in differents sizes and paper designs. You don't have to be perfect with this! It looks cool when they really look ripped, so don't try to get it perfect.

2. Wad up each paper in your hand to make it look really wrinkled. Flatten each of the circles out.

3. I like to ink the edges of each circle with a stamp pad. It gives them dimension and it looks pretty! You can use any color stamp pad that matches the paper.

4. Lay each circle on top of each other starting with the biggest and ending with the smallest. Now, you can either attach a brad in the center (that is what I did) or you can put a pretty button in the center!

5. There a a few different ways I have made this card: the first one, I covered the bottom half of a 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch card with patterned paper and glued a strip of ric rac at the top of the patterned paper. Then I put the posey in the center at the top of the card where it its blank. Your can either glue the posey down or stick the brad through the paper and attach it that way.

6. The other card is made with a strip of patterned paper going down the side of the card. Rip both edges of the paper so the white inside of the paper shows.

7. Then I attached the posey so it was half way on the patterned paper and halfway on the blank card. I also stamped Birthday Wishes on the bottom right hand corner of the card. You can also just leave the card blank if you wish.

8. Ink the edges with a stamp pad or a chalk ink pad.

9. These cards are so simple to do and you use tons of paper scraps!

Please make a comment if you have any questions, or just want to say Hi! I love comments....
I hope this inspired you to use up your paper scraps and make something lovely to give to someone else!
