Fall Ruffle Purse

I am in LOVE.  Really.  I get excited this time of year for FALL and want to start decorating, making stuff in all the FALL colors.  While perusing the internet, I came across this absolutely stunning purse!

It is so pretty and just perfect for those FALL outings.  I. must. have. it.

See what I'm sayin'?  Those ruffles are just calling me.  I love the color as well!

Black Shirt makeover

My SIL gave me some clothes a while back that she didn't want anymore.  I was happy to take them!  I don't mind hand me downs!  Here is what the shirt looked like before:

It's cute, and I love the gross grain ribbon tie, but it was a little plain and needed some more color.  Here is what I did:

I took some black and white fabric from my stash and cut 3-4 strips about 12-15 inches long and about 2 inches wide.  I liked the thinner strips better for this shirt.  

Now, I didn't take enough pictures for this tutorial and I apologize! 

 I have to tell you something that I have learned lately with my sewing machine.  I made ruffles out of these strips turning my thread tension to about 6-7 and the thread stitch length dial all the way up to 7.  Don't back stitch.

 I was so excited when I found out about this!  It makes the ruffle for you!!  SOOO COOL.  This piece of precious information made me jump for joy.  I was jazzed!!

Here is where I have all the ruffles pinned.  I decided to add a little ruffle embellishment on the right side.   

I pinned it REALLY good.  

Next, I sewed the ruffles on using a regular stitch and making sure I back stitched at both ends.

I made sure that I sewed right next to the ruffle stitch.  Then after I am finished, I could just pull out the ruffle stitch.  

Here is the after picture.  I was really pleased how it turned out!  Here's is what the picture looks like when I took it in the mirror:

Looks like an "S" ha!  Reminds me of those shirts that Laverne and Shirley wore (does that date me big time?)!!  It was NOT meant to be an "S!"

I think I'm gonna wear this to school this week! 

Red Sweater Redo with Ruffle tutorial

A few weeks ago I was at Salvation Army and I found some super cute cardigans.  Here is the red one I found for about $1.50:

I haven't worn it yet, because I bought it to do something fun with.  I had some cute fabric to go with the sweater and I used THIS tutorial on Tea Rose Home.   I absolutely LOVE her blog.  She has so many cute clothing tutorials!  You have to try one:)

I pretty much followed Sachiko's tutorial and I LOVE the way it turned out.  The only thing I don't like is that I used a cotton material and the edges are fraying a little.  I have to cut lots of little threads every time I wear it.  Next time I will use a different material.  This was one of the first times I tried this and I am pretty happy with it!

Can you see the cute button I made with the same material?  It turned out so cute!!

I think this will be cute with jeans or my light brown skirt!  I think I want a headband to match....

Lovely T-shirt Make-over

I was at Target the other day and found 2 of the same shirt for $2.50 each.  They were long sleeve and V-neck.  I knew I had to buy them and try a make-over with them!  I have been wanting to try this for months, but haven't had the courage too.

I stumbled across this blog a few weeks ago, and I love her shirt redo tutorials.  She gives awesome directions!  This is where I got the idea for mine. Now remember, this is the first one I have done and I am NOT a seamstress by any means.  Sewing even kinda stresses me out, but I like how it turned out!

I also used another tutorial from another blog for the sleeves.  They were long sleeves, but I changed them to 3/4 sleeve length.  I feel terrible, because I can't remember the name of the blog that I got that tutorial from.  If anyone knows, please tell me so I can give here credit!!

 The neckline seemed a little stretched out when I was done, but I was planning on wearing that white shirt underneath anyways (don't like the cleavage look).
I really was happy with the way it turned out.  I have been wearing it everywhere!

It probably took me about 2 hours to make, but for my first time, I don't think that was too bad!

I can't wait to show you what I made today!  I am lovin' Spring Break!  My kids are keeping busy and I am able to create some lovlies:)

Flour sack Ruffle Dishtowel Tutorial

A few months ago I found this tutorial and had to try it!  I had lots of scrap fabric laying around and wasn't doing anything with it.  I love the monogram on hers, but I skipped that part.  I love the way they turned out!!

It was soooo easy!  I absolutely HATE to make ruffles.  That's why I loved this tutorial.  You simply rip some strips of fabric and slowly fold the fabric as you are sewing it.  That simple! 

I want to start making these for gifts.  I would, however recommend washing the material before you sew it on the flour sack towel.  That way it doesn't go all wonky when you wash the towel. Ha!
