Boo to You Canvas Art

I love canvas art.  It's fun to work with and it's hard to mess up.  I bought a bunch of canvas in different sizes from that craft store I told you about that went out of business.  For this project I used a 8 x 8 canvas.  Here's what you need for this project:

8 x 8 canvas

Black paint (I used Delta Ceramcoat)

Orange paint (Delta Ceramcoat)

stencil (I used Martha Stewart)

Scrapbook paper ( I used Boo to You by My Minds Eye)

vinyl lettering (or you could use foam stamps, etc.)

Burlap

spray adhesive

stencil brush

glue gun

I didn't take a picture of every step, but this was an easy project.  The hardest part is probably the stenciling.  The secret to stenciling is you move your hand up and down and don't spread out the bristles on the brush.  You also don't want too much paint on your brush.

First I painted the canvas.  Let it dry. It only took about 15 minutes to dry.  Then I stenciled with the black paint and Martha Stewart stencil.  These stencils are awesome!  They came in a 3 pack.  I used my 50% off coupon at Micheal's.  I paid $8 for 3 different stencils with different patterns on them.

After the paint was dry I cut the black burlap a little smaller than the 8 x 8 canvas.  I fringed the edges of the burlap a little.  

Then I cut the paper a little smaller size than the burlap.  I used spray adhesive to attach the burlap to the canvas and to attach the paper to the burlap.  It Worked great!  

Next, I adhered the vinyl lettering to the paper.  Isn't that font cute?

Lastly, I made a lovely little rosette flower with the black burlap and hot glued a pumpkin button on the flower.  

This project probably took me about 1 1/2 hours including the time to stencil the canvas.  I love the way it turned out!  

I think I will give this to my friend for her birthday!

Cute Little Lamps Redone

Last Summer I bought these cute little lamps at a garage sale for about $1.50 each:

I really liked the textures on the lamp, but wasn't very crazy about the Brass, so almost a year later, I decided to do some spray painting!

So, I totally blew it with the pictures.  I only took a few of the before pictures!  Here is where I measured how much burlap to put on the shade.  I rolled the shade along the burlap and drew a line with a pen.  It was actually really easy!  I made sure to leave some extra on the top and bottom so I had room to glue.

I used spray adhesive to adhere the burlap on the shade.  Then, I used my glue gun to glue the ends over as seen in this picture.

The, I decided to make a "W" stencil with my Cricut using vinyl.  I used a stencil brush to apply the black paint.  

Here is one of the finished lamps.  Wahoo!!  I really love the way it turned out!  I spray painted the lamp heirloom white (my favorite color!). 

How do you like the way they look?  I was really surprised at how quickly I got them done.  It took me about 2 hours total, including drying time for the lamps. 

What a cool $3 project, huh?

SPRING barn wood sign Tutorial

I have been so excited to show you this!  The other day I went to the Salvation Army's 1/2 off sale.  I LOVE when they have their sale!!  It makes me sooo happy:)

So I went shopping and found all of these treasures:

See the sign?  It's really not THAT ugly, but I wanted to make something different from it, so I took my palm sander to it!  All of these goodies cost me about .50-$1.00!  Love a good deal, right??

After I sanded the heck out of it, I spray painted it with heirloom white.
Then I picked out my paint colors:

Folk Art- Sweetheart Pink

Americana- Spa Blue

Americana- Lilac 

Delta- Custard

Americana- Tangerine

Next, I cut out the letters with my Cricut machine.  I used white contact paper and it worked great!  That saves a ton of money!!

After the machine cut out the letters, I made sure I kept the inside of the R, P, and G.  Then I stippled using the contact paper cut letters as stencils.  It went really fast!  I only had to redo the I. The first one was too light, so I changed to Sweetheart pink.  It worked perfectly!

When the paint was dry, I sanded over the letters just a little and over the rest of the sign.  Then I glued some large ric rac on the top and bottom with my glue gun.

Next, I added 3 little ribbon rosette's on each side to fill up some blank space.  The sign already had some wire attached to hang, but I decided to replace it with new 19 gauge wire.
