Little Girls Mini Monogrammed Clipboard

I made this the other day for my 9 year old daughter and she loved it!  It was very inexpensive and very easy.  Here are the supplies you will need:

-1 mini clipboard (got mine at Dollar Tree)
-Monogrammed packing tape (dollar bins at Michaels, or duck tape would work too!)
-Ribbon (I got the houndstooth at Michael's, because I am addicted:)
-Button

That's all you need!  It cost about 3 dollars to make and you will have a ton of tape and ribbon leftover to do at least 2 more!

Here is what the clipboard and tape looks like.  The tape is kinda like packing tape, but a little thinner.  I just measured the width of the clipboard and put it on, smoothing it down as I went.  I did that all the way up the clipboard.

I didn't paint my clipboard first, because I wanted to make sure the black letters were really noticeable.

When you get towards the top of the clipboard you have to cut smaller pieces of the tape to fit around the clip.  I had a little gap on the bottom, so I just glued a piece of ribbon there.  Once you tie all the ribbons on the clip, you don't eve notice the gap!  Fill up the whole clip with ribbon.  I just tied them in square knots. 

Note:  I cut the ribbons in half length wise, so they would be easier to tie around the clip.  You can use your extra ribbon strips for the flower petals!

I used some of my extra ribbon strips to make a cute little flower!  Just fold each strip, glue the ends together, then glue it down on the bottom corner of the clipboard.  

Please ignore my ugly well used glue gun!  I use it A LOT.

Add a button to the center of the flower.  Done!

So fun!  My daughter was soooo excited to have this.  She even took it to school today:)  That makes me happy....

I had her sit at the counter and write something on the clipboard.  She wrote the sweetest letter to one of her friends!

  Doesn't she have fabulous cursive writing???

Lamp Shade cover Redo Tutorial

First I have to tell you I am by no means a expert in sewing.  I can do the basic stuff, and I have made costumes for my kids in the past, but usually they don't turn out the way I want them too!  I have very little patience with a pattern.

I have had these lamps for about Mmmmmm 17yrs!  I am really sick of the early 90's look of the fabric.  So the first step was taking the cover off.

See how ugly that fabric is?  I LOVED it when my friend first made them.  They were gorgeous and I was a newlywed who was clueless about stuff like that.  That is my lamp shade next to the fabric.  See all the lovely pleats?  I didn't want them there anymore, so I ripped them off too. 

Here's what it looked liked as I was ripping it off.  I admit I was a little scared that I may be ruining the shade, but I was willing to take the chance.

After the pleated stuff was off, then I picked the fabric.  I chose some Amy Butler fabric. 

Isn't it perdy?  Now, the next step I didn't take any pictures of, but I measured
around the lamp shade and took my fabric and kind of eyed it (like I said, I don't have a lot of patience and I am not a perfectionist). 

I liked the style of the old lamp shade cover, so I just copied it.

I sewed 2 basting stitches (don't backstitch) around the top (where the ruffle will be, about 1/4 inch apart) and on the bottom (about 1/4 inch).

Oooo, not a very clear picture, but I thought I should take one of me on the sewing machine!

This is what the 2 basting stitches look like.  Remember not to back stitch! 

Here is what it looks like after I pulled the gathers on the top.  It takes a while, and I am not a pro at gathers, so it took me like an hour....I didn't want to break my threads and have to start over!

Next, I pulled the cover on top of the shade and hot glued it in random places.

For the Rosettes, I just ripped strips (about 8 or so inches long and 2 inches wide) of a coordinating fabric.  I didn't include how to make a rosette, but there is a great tutorial HERE.

Next, I sewed a little pucker in 3 places around the cover to glue my rosettes too.

Fabric Rosette Headband

I have been going a little crazy with crafts lately!  I just see so many lovely ideas on all of your blogs, I can't stop making stuff!!  I have absolutely loved all the cute rosette headbands that I have seen on my favorite blogs.

They are pretty easy to make and I have found a super easy tutorial that makes them actually fun to make (and you don't burn the crapola out of your hands!)

I actually wore it to church last Sunday and I got lots of compliments on it!  Yea, I finished another project.  Wahoooo!

Trick or Treat Smell My Feet Halloween Craft Tutorial

Lately I have been going to our local thrift store where everything is half off  on Mondays.  I can't stop buying junk!  Every time I go in there, I find something.  My kitchen counters are filling up with all kinds of goodies.


A week or so ago, I was in this thrift store and came across this really cool wood plaque with an ugly picture on it, and 2 clear knobs.  I thought to myself,
"I know I can sand that picture off and spray that sucker black....but then what?"


I remembered I had this cute huge circle die cut that said, "Trick or Treat Smell my Feet" on it.  They were really cheap and I bought about 5 of them.  So I took the wood plaque home, sanded the bejeebers out of it (to get the ugly picture off).  Next, I took the plaque to my backyard, and sprayed lots of black spray paint on it.  When you buy spray paint, I highly recommend Rust-oleum American Accents.  Canyon Black is my favorite color!  I have used 2 bottles in the last week or so.  It drys really fast and has a nice satin finish. You can get it at Home Depot for $3.44 a can!

The next step is of course let the paint dry completely.  Then I found a cute piece of Halloween Scrapbook paper.  I cut it down the size of my plaque, then glued it on with Modge Podge.  You can buy this at any craft store for around 6.99 a bottle and you get a lot.  My last bottle lasted about 2 years!  Coat the top of the paper and I also coated the whole plaque with the Modge Podge as well.  Let it dry completely.  You will notice the paper will start to bubble.  Just press down on with your hands or a dry rag, until the bubbles are gone.

I also glued the Halloween Die cut down with the Modge Podge and put a final thin coat all over the plaque.  After it dried which only took about 1/2 hour, I then hot glued a black feather boa around the edges of the wood plaque. The feather boa was purchased at Joann's for about  $3.50 for 6 ft. (I used a coupon!).  To finish it off, I made a cute little ribbon flower that took me literally about 5 minutes to make.  Super easy!

Do you like?  I am so pleased with how it turned out!

I can either hang this plaque up on the wall, or display it on a decorative easel.  I am going to use the easel.  I have about 4 or 5 laying around.   I hope you like it!  Let me know what you think....

Lovely Handmade Flower Tutorial plus a handbag!

I started school this week, and WOW it is kinda hard!  I already have lot's of homework, and I am just taking 3 classes!

I have already missed surfing the internet for cool blogs, but today I had to  take a few minutes (more like 1 hr.) to check out some super cool blogs.  Well here are 2 I found, and I LOOOOVE these blogs!  Please go check them out!
